Persons of Note - Further Collage, Depicting Pataphysics

After my tutorial, I decided on aiming to portray pataphysics through my work in response to this project, and I guess this is the first attempt or example of this.

The importance of the gun goes not much further than Jarry's obsession with his Bulldog Revolver, which he apparently took joy in pulling on dinner guests, and interestingly Picasso inherited it after Jarry's death.

The thinking behind the actual image making was to try and show a comparison between what we see as reality and a more abstract, ambiguous form of the same reality. The clear illustration of the gun contrasts with the more fragmented cut paper behind, which is then one step further removed with the pencil shapes, creating even more abstract forms.

The bottom page is a similar attempt, showing the juxtaposition between the realistic illustration and the less obvious, simplified forms behind. This time I have used the red lines to show the interrelationship between the different elements, something which pataphysics does seem to touch on. The red is a reference from one of Jarry's fictions, where Chinese stories are referenced about red thread holding together a being's head and their body.

I do love how diagrammatic these feel, how mechanical and scientific almost. Interestingly they almost reflect the imagery found in instructions or manuals, which could be an interesting direction to push this in; a manual about pataphysics.
